InterGATE has since the first version as a hardware box been an indispensable part of the emergency vehicles’ basic equipment. Common to all the versions have been to ensure that the preparedness can navigate their vehicles immediately and safely to the site of injury.
The latest version, interGATE4, has been operated by several users since 2017. Throughout, the application has run test cycles at several preparedness and based on this extensive testing, the requirements for a new version have been specified in cooperation with the emergency preparedness.
New and improved functionality
The functionality of interGATE 4.1 has been improved in several ways as well as new features have been added. For instance has the map feature changed fundamentally, which means the maps are stored locally on the iPad. This ensures that the maps always are available, regardless of whether there is network coverage. The map is updated according to the settings in the configuration, for instance when the device is within Wi-Fi coverage.
The navigation and route calculation are also updated and are now supported by a new advanced navigation algorithm. In addition to speed-dependent navigation and zoom function on the map, this means that the route calculation, based on the chosen navigation profile, considers limited space for turns.
The speed of recalculation has been optimized, which in practice means that the navigation resumes within a few seconds when a new route is selected.
As a new feature, the user is presented with an overview of the entire route before starting navigation. This means that the user has an overview of the expected route before the navigation starts, which helps to ensure the drive is optimally done.
Improved user interface
Based on the ongoing dialogue with the users, the user interface has also been updated. Messages and navigation instructions have become larger and more readable, and as part of the navigation instructions, an arrow is now displayed indicating the number of meters to the next turn. The user’s interaction with the application has been optimized, where it now has become clear to see which status has been selected most recently.
Another specific desire from the users has been the opportunity to dim the brightness of the screen when interGATE is used at night. Now interGATE 4.1 includes a day-and-night function where the brightness can be reduced by a single click. Additionally, the day-and-night function helps saving power.
