New Garmin nüvi® GPS models for our fleet management solution

Over the past few months, Garmin has released new models of their popular nüvi series, replacing
the now obsolete nüvi 5000. Several of the new models support our fleet management protocol and can be used for our fleet management solution with interGATE.

In this regard, we would especially like to highlight the nüvi® 465TF and 1490T models, which are both thinner and feature a 4.3-inch and 5-inch large screen display, respectively. Both models have extra features, such as Lane Assist and Junction View. For more information, please visit your local Garmin web site.

iV Notes

No more sticky notes

iV-Notes is a module to communicate important information and short messages - simply and efficiently. iV-Notes can be used from any client on the company network and runs separately from the alarm handling. Imagine that something happens that you want to share with the whole network as quickly as possible. Let's say that the phone system is down for maintenance for the next three hours. In this case, you might want to inform everybody on the network that you have invoked different procedures, until the phone system is back online. Or let's say that you have a message to a particular group of operators in charge of a particular customer group. Or ... something else entirely! No matter what, the message has to be delivered as soon as possible and may be important to one or more individuals. iV Notes is the perfect tool for this

.iV-Notes can be combined with information displays, in which a section of the screen acts as a ticker. This type of information screen (with ticker) is already in use today in all of the Danish police service centres and call centres. Basically we are talking about a centrally located large screen

.iV-Notes provides two different types of notes on the information screen: The most important notes appear at the top of the note fields, and the most recently received note will appear as a ticker at the top of the screen. In addition, there is also room for less important notes, such as "Please welcome our new colleague, Robert Richardson.", "Happy Birthday, Sue Hamilton! We will be serving cake in the cafeteria at 3 PM." and similar messages.

  • A note is published using an address book to one or more recipients
  • When a note is marked as high priority, the menu bar on the recipients client flashes
  • A sound can be played or a relay pulled when a note is received
  • It is possible to monitor who is reading a note
  • You can define a period, in which the note is visible for recipients.
  • When the period expires, the note is automatically removed
  • At any time you can recall a note. This removes the note from all the recipients

iV-Notes is an add-on module to interVIEW. iV-notes is installed on each client to exchange information but is not a part of alarm handling. All clients across the company may benefit from iV-Notes, including the customer centre and reception desk.

SIA conversion in interVIEW

As of interVIEW ver. 2.3v3, SIA and Contact ID signals can be converted directly in interVIEW instead of through the concentrator. It is possible to create individual SIA/CID conversions per panel type, which provides significantly more flexibility than before. It is (still) important to stay focused when you define the conversions. Especially when it comes to SIA, as many panel manufacturers (and installers) have a broad scope for "creative" use of the SIA standards. The diagram below shows the best practice when creating a new SIA conversion. Initially, a thorough panel analysis groups the SIA codes according to the data content type, such as codes with zone+area and codes with user+area. The groups are created in one (or more) conversion sets, which are then combined into the final conversion.

This new, fast and versatile approach to creating SIA/CID conversions have already been implemented with great success among several of our customers. The benefits include:

  • Fast generation of new SIA/CID conversions
  • SIA/CID conversions based on panel types
  • The conversion is carried out in the familiar interVIEW user interface.
  • In addition to using the SIA Event Type and SIA Address Fields, you can now also convert signals using the SIA Modifier Code and SIA Event Parameter.
  • Each SIA/CID conversion set can be reused across multiple SIA/CID conversions.

Tips & Tricks

Did you know that ...?
... you can easily add an image (e.g. a logo) to a report? Do the following:

1. Create an image as a BMP file with max. size of 1.80 cm by 8.85 cm. You get the best quality by maintaining the 180/885 ratio in the resolution (e.g. 180 pixels X 885 pixels).
2. Name the BMP file: [ivReportLogo.bmp].
3. Save the file to the following folder: [C: \ Program Files \ interVIEW \ Bin]. Note: The file must be in the same folder Report as kernel [RepNuc.exe].
From now on, the logo will appear in the top right corner when you generate a report.

Product news

Interface to Geutebrük
Our video client now supports the Geutebrük protocol.

Documentation

We have just released a fully updated and revised interVIEW manual (ver. 2.3n-1) in PDF format. The manual covers all aspects of system configuration and alarm handling. Initially, the manual will be available in English, with the Danish version following shortly. The manual will be included on the installation CD as well as available for download on our website.

SINE
In November 2009, interVIEW was certified for use within the Danish TETRA platform for digital emergency communication, known as "SINE".
The integration between interVIEW and SINE consists of three new interfaces on our position server:

MotoLocator positioning
Short Data Router (SDR) to send/receive (secure / encrypted) messages
Computer Aided Dispatch Interface (CADI) to receive status and emergency

The tight integration means that interVIEW's position server can now be connected to SINE via an Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS) gateway, taking full advantage of all the capabilities in the new digital radio network, including the reception of position data. The position server can also receive position data from units via the GSM/UMTS networks.

The solution is flexible and scalable. For example, several emergency management agencies may jointly connect to SINE, while continuing to handle their own alarms. This way, different scenarios can be designed, such as having only one Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) handle all the alarms at night or having the ARCs back each other up. This solution is ideal for a group of municipalities in the same region.

Another advantage is that all the ARC operators use the same software - regardless of mission. The same platform handles everything from internal theft alarms with video surveillance, technical alarms to 112 alarms, and data is logged in the same database.

On Wednesday 20 January 2010, Innovative will hold a seminar concerning interVIEW and SINE.

Use GPS to expand your business
The demand for tracking and monitoring of mobility is increasing rapidly. Exposed people need protection, stolen vehicles must be recovered as soon as possible and logistics must be tracked. At Innovative, we follow this progress closely and offer our customers to expand their business in line with the growth.

GPS technology is now readily available and perfectly suited for tracking and monitoring of mobility while Graphical Information Systems (GIS) are becoming increasingly common. In order to take full advantage of both the GPS technology and the GIS, we continuously introduce new features to the digital maps in interVIEW. In addition to traditional alarm handling, interVIEW is an effective tool for monitoring and tracking of mobility.

The demand for protection of people is increasing and the preferred solution is a mobile alarm. With a click of a button, the mobile alarm immediately transmits its current position along with an alarm to the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). The position is then displayed on the digital map in interVIEW and the operator can now help the person. This is a perfect solution for lone workers, people with illnesses, home care, gas station attendants, guards or drivers.

Innovative recommends the mobile alarm GH1202 for personal protection. The unit can be programmed to suit individual needs across the wide target group and its intuitive design makes it easy to use.
GPS is also a cost effective technology for the ARC to monitor vehicles. The ARC uses interVIEW to locate vehicles and valuables. interVIEW displays the vehicle position on its digital map and the positions can be dispatched to the owner, a guard or the police.

The target groups include companies with vehicles within transportation of valuables, leasing and insurance, car dealers and construction companies. Tracking of privately owned vehicles is growing - especially for luxury vehicles.

For vehicle protection, Innovative recommends the FM-series.

Within the European Union alone, almost one million vehicles now have a GPS tracking device installed, primarily for fleet management within the transport segment and the deployment of GPS technology will continue to other areas.

More focus on documentation

In our efforts to maintain the best customer support, we are increasing our focus on documentation. We have therefore recently employed Peter Stelling in the role as technical writer/supporter.

Peter is a specialist in XML-based, single-source authoring, which enables us to update multiple documents quickly and simultaneously. Also, we can now deliver content in multiple formats, such as PDF, Word, XPS or as a .NET help file.

To begin with, we will continue using the popular PDF format, which has several advantages. First of all, it is a widely used format, especially on the Internet. Secondly, the PDF format allows the reader to choose whether he/she will read the document on the monitor or print the manual on paper.

All the manuals will be available in English.

New products and features

SIA DC09
Our IP Alarm Receiver now supports the SIA DC09 format.

SIA and Contact ID
You can now interpret SIA and Contact ID in interVIEW and link the interpretation to a panel type (previously, it was only allowed to define the interpretation in the Concentrator). This way, interVIEW now supports multiple interpretations. The new feature also provides enhanced support for areas.

Windows Vista/7, Server 2008 and 64-bit
interVIEW now supports Windows Vista (in both 32/64-bit versions). Also, we are currently working hard on ensuring full compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008.

Note: Currently, the Concentrator does not support 64-bit. Contact Innovative for further information.

Fleet Management and status colours
interVIEW now automatically displays unique colours to indicate vehicle status. When the driver changes status (using the I/O module in the vehicle), the colour changes on the map.

Fleet Management and digital communication
In addition to sending messages to a single vehicle, you can now address a group of vehicles.

Digital map and alarm queues
You can now select the existing alarm queue filters from the client. This allows you to display a defined customer group, selected user flags, priorities or customers in service, similar to the alarm queue.

Tips & Tricks

Keep the system account updated

Every time you change the interVIEW system configuration (e.g. upgrading software, adding components), remember to also update the system account (zsys0001).

The system account reports internal interVIEW system alarms. For example, if the connection to the position server is lost, and the system account has been updated with the relevant system zones and instructions, then interVIEW will immediately report that connection to the position server has been lost and provide the operator with the instructions on how to handle the system alarm.

However, if the system account has not been updated, then the operator will simply receive an "Unknown Zone" system alarm. And since the instructions have not been defined, the operator will not know how to handle the alarm.

Innovative continuously adds new features and interfaces to interVIEW, which may include new system zones. Therefore, it is important to keep the system zones and the applicable instructions updated.

Read more in the interVIEW System Setup Manual.

Alarm limit
You can now create an alarm limit for each customer. The purpose is to advise the operator once the alarm limit is reached. An alarm limit can be defined as maximum 3 alarms in 7 days or maximum 5 alarms in 30 days.
You can set alarm limits as default, individually per customer or per installer.

Read more in the interVIEW System Setup Manual.

"Windows"
In the Open/Close-module, you can now define "windows". A window is a time period with a fixed length, but without a fixed start time. Windows are especially suited for operations without fixed start times, such as cleaning operations.

Read more in the interVIEW System Setup Manual.

Customised alarm queues
interVIEW now supports customised alarm queues. This way, you can select which data to display in the queue (e.g. only red alarms) and how to display the data (e.g. colour, font). The colours can be defined using status flags, user flags and sum log flags.

Read more in the interVIEW System Setup Manual.
